A team of expert paediatric surgeons at Yatharth Hospital Greater Noida has successfully performed a complex surgery on a 5-day-old neonate, weighing 2.8 kg, who was brought to the hospital with bladder exstrophy and epispadias. The baby, delivered outside the hospital, was also diagnosed with septicemia upon admission.
The medical team took immediate action, treating the septicemia before proceeding with the delicate surgery. Bladder exstrophy is a rare birth defect in which the bladder is exposed outside the body, often accompanied by epispadias, a malformation of the urinary tract. This case occurs when the abdominal wall and underlying organs do not fuse properly during development in the womb.
Thanks to the expertise, and coordinated efforts of the pediatric surgery and neonatology teams, the surgery was successful. This achievement underscores Yatharth Hospital's commitment to providing advanced neonatal care and life-saving interventions for even the most complex cases.
