When Every Millimeter Mattered, Yatharth Hospital Doctors Delivered a Miracle
Faridabad, December XX, 2025: Multi-disciplinary team of doctors at Yatharth Super Specialty Hospital, Sector-88, Faridabad, successfully treated a highly complex case involving a premature newborn, giving the baby boy a new lease of life. The child, born at 34 weeks of gestation, was diagnosed with Posterior Urethral Valves (PUV) defect, a rare but serious congenital obstruction in the urethra that can be life-threatening if not addressed promptly.
Right after birth, the baby showed signs of severe distress as he was unable to pass urine, leading to urinary retention, a critical emergency in premature infants. The neonate had to be immediately catheterized to relieve the retention and stabilize his condition. Over the next few days, a multidisciplinary team of neonatologists, urologists, and anesthesiologists worked together to optimize the child for surgery, balancing his fragile health parameters, low birth weight, and prematurity-related complications.
Dr. Dhansukh Kumawat, Director- Pediatrics and Neonatology, Yatharth Super Specialty Hospital, Sector-88, Faridabad, said “The baby was born prematurely at 34 weeks with severe respiratory distress and abdominal distension and was immediately shifted to the NICU for advanced support. Investigations revealed a posterior urethral valve defect causing complete urinary obstruction, leading to significant damage to both kidneys and multiple life-threatening complications like too much acid in the body, repeatedly high potassium levels in the blood, serious bloodstream infection (often called blood poisoning). After careful stabilization, we successfully performed Posterior Urethral Valve repair surgery on the 10th day of life despite the baby’s low birth weight (2.2 Kg). Post-procedure, the baby passed urine adequately and recovered well and was discharges on the third day of the procedure. Making this a rare and successful laser intervention in a premature, low-birth-weight infant at our hospital.”
Despite the complexities, the procedure was a complete success. The newborn experienced immediate relief and was finally able to void urine spontaneously, marking the first major milestone in his recovery. Post-surgery, the child has been closely monitored, showing steady improvement.
Dr. Alok Jha - Sr. Consultant, Urology, Andrology and Renal Transplant, Yatharth Super Specialty Hospital, Sector-88, Faridabad said “Operating in such small premature babies is extremely challenging. The entire procedure hinges on millimeter-level precision and timing. We used a highly miniaturized 4.5 Fr scope and a 0.2 mm Thulium Fiber Laser to perform the surgery. There is truly a very thin line between success and disaster in such cases. We are grateful that the baby responded well and is recovering safely under our care. The successful treatment not only saved the child’s life but also prevented long-term complications such as kidney damage, recurrent infections, and chronic bladder dysfunction, conditions commonly associated with untreated PUV. The hospital’s proactive approach, swift diagnosis, and precise minimally invasive intervention played a crucial role in ensuring a positive outcome.
This case highlights the advanced capabilities of Yatharth Super Specialty Hospital, sector-88, Faridabad in managing rare and high-risk neonatal conditions. With state-of-the-art technology, specializedpediatric urology services, and a dedicated NICU team, the hospital continues to push the boundaries of newborn care and complex pediatric surgeries.
