First Successful Cochlear Implant Surgery at Performed at Yatharth Hospital, Noida Extension
Doctors in Noida have successfully completed a cochlear implant on a five-year-old deaf girl from Turkmenistan, allowing her a chance to hear sounds for the first time.
Nurgozel Gundogdyyeva, from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, was diagnosed with bilateral congenital hearing loss at the age of two. Despite early intervention attempts with hearing aids, her condition progressively deteriorated to bilateral profound hearing loss, significantly impacting her speech and daily activities.
The ground-breaking surgery, led by Dr Shikha Sharma, HOD-ENT & Cochlear Implant surgeon at Yatharth Hospital, Noida Extension, involved the successful cochlear implantation. This state-of-the-art technology represents the latest advancement in hearing restoration solutions in children and adults.
"This surgery represents more than just a medical procedure; it's about giving a child the opportunity to experience the world of sound," said Dr. Shikha Sharma, HOD-ENT & Cochlear Implant surgeon at Yatharth Hospital, Noida Extension. "We have done successful switch on of the implant after three weeks of the surgery. However, it will take time for speech and language development in the child. The chosen implant system offers superior hearing quality and reliability, essential factors for a young child beginning the hearing journey and speech."
