A complex case of a 17 cm adrenal tumor with tumor thrombus extending into the left renal vein and IVC was successfully treated at Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, Noida Extension.
The 38-year-old patient, Archana, was diagnosed with a large mass arising from the left adrenal gland. Further evaluation revealed an aggressive tumor with extension into major blood vessels.
Under the expert care of Dr. Pragnesh Desai, Senior Director & HOD - Urology, Renal Transplant, Robotics & Uro-Oncology, the surgical team successfully removed the tumor and thrombus while preserving the left kidney and spleen.
The challenging surgery lasted approximately 3-4 hours, with minimal blood loss. The patient recovered well after surgery and was discharged on the fifth day.
The biopsy confirmed adrenocortical carcinoma, following which the case was reviewed by the Medical Oncology team for further treatment planning.
