“In order to curb the rising incidences of diabetes, especially among the younger population, there is an urgent need to create awareness about how to control and lead a healthy life with diabetes. While regular screening is the only way for early diagnosis and monitoring, people with a family history of diabetes need to undergo screening regularly. Through this clinic launch, diabetic patients in and around the locality will have the closest access to one of the best treatment and remedial services, for efficient management of the disease, to prevent further damage to overall health.” Said Dr Manju Tyagi, Director & Senior Consultant Internal Medicine & Diabetologist, Yatharth Super Speciality Hospitals

Even though recent advancements in the field of medication for diabetes are revolutionizing and opening a wide range of better treatment methods, but still Diabetes patients are increasing at an alarming rate in India, and what makes the situation worse is that over 50% of them still remain undiagnosed. This may be attributed to a lack of awareness or necessary resources that link them to other life-threatening complications like cardiovascular diseases (CVD), Diabetic retinopathy, Arterial disease, diabetic nephropathy and other neurological ailments.

While diabetes remains one of the silent killers, obesity is also on the rise which has the potential to give rise to various other ailments and needs to be controlled.

“Obesity is a growing concern among the Indian population with an estimate of around 10% of the population being morbidly obese. Obesity is not only a lifestyle disease but a gateway for spectrum of diseases like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, joint disease, liver diseases, and increased certain organ-specific cancers (pancreas, breast, endometrium). There is an imperative need for the public to rely on healthy habits and undergo timely screening to prevent future complications.” Said Dr Kapil Tyagi, Managing Director, Yatharth Super Speciality Hospitals

According to recent data provided by NFHS (National Family & Health Survey), Delhi NCR had the maximum number of obese people (with 45% males and 49% females). It was also estimated that the majority of the obese patients have truncal obesity and a Body Mass Index (BMI) of around 35. Apart from obesity being a common lifestyle ailment in adults, kids under the age of 5 years have also been reported for being overweight. Globally, more than 4 crore children under the age of 5 years are reported to be obese and out of which 50% of them are from India.

“There is a paradigm shift in the pattern of diseases since the last decade, with lifestyle diseases like diabetes, hypertension and obesity on the rise among the younger population. Millions of people in India are suffering from diabetes and the situation is alarming. While all the 3 conditions are interlinked, people need to be aware that only timely detection is the key to fighting against them. With the advancement in technology and medical science, such conditions are no more a deadly disease but if left uncontrolled can lead to multi-organ damage.” Added Mr Yatharth Tyagi, Director,  Yatharth Super Speciality Hospitals.
