Young Man Treated For Severe Traumatic Head Injury

Noida, December 22, 2019: High risk and complex surgery at Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, Noida saved life of 23 year old man who had multiple skull fractures and complications in brain due to road traffic accident.

A young 23 year old male met with an accident 7 days ago in the early morning while driving a car and going to office. He was alone but before he could lose his sense a passerby came to his rescue and he managed to unlock his phone and ring his mother. He was then brought to Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital in Noida. CT scan revealed that he had fractured his skull badly. There were multiple fractures of his frontal bone and upper part of his face. Bone was in multiple pieces and they were not only severely compressing his brain and pressing over the major veins of brain. He was rapidly passing into coma. Neurosurgeon Dr. P.K. Jha conducted a 3 hour long surgery along with the plastic surgeon and carefully took out the bones fragments compressing the brain and its vein.

“It was a tactically demanding surgery as bleeding from the vein would have been fatal. More serious problem found during surgery was that the fracture was extending till skull base and there was chances of brain fluid (CSF) leak through it. It took lot of effort to successfully plug this defect. All bone fragments were disengaged as they were impacted into each other. They were replaced in proper place and shape and multiple screws and plates were used to fix and unite them. There was some contusions in brain and they too were removed. His speech area of brain was also badly contused but it was not touched for the benefit would have outweighed the risk of loss of his speaking power, said Dr. P.K. Jha, Neurosurgeon & Director Neurosciences, Yatharth Super Specialty Hospitals.

Dr Kapil Tyagi, Managing Director, Yatharth Super Specialty Hospital said “the case was very complicated.
