Yatharth Hospital Performs Life-Saving Endovascular Surgery On African Patient with Ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
Abdominal aortic aneurysm, a weakening and ballooning of the aorta, the largest blood vessel in the body, may result in a life-threatening rupture. Currently, there are no effective drugs to prevent the growth or rupture of aortic aneurysms; endovascular repair is the only option for treating this condition.
In an outstanding display of cardiovascular expertise, team of doctors at Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, Noida Extension saved the life of a 56 year old African female suffering from a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. This landmark case represents the first of its kind in the Greater Noida region, showcasing the hospital's expertise in managing complex cardiovascular emergencies.
The extremely diligent team from Yatharth Hospital including Dr. Akhil Kumar Rustagi (Director & HOD- Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery), Dr. Krishan Yadav (Sr Consultant- Interventional Cardiology) and Dr. Shiladitya Roy Choudhury (HOD-Cardiac Anaesthesia) meticulously planned the line of treatment for the patient, including proper medication during the emergency airlift to India. Upon admission to the hospital, the patient was in a critical condition. Her kidney and liver functions were declining, and there was a large swelling in her abdomen. Within 48 hours of admission, the patient was stabilized and taken for endovascular repair surgery (EVAR). During the intricate procedure, a covered stent was meticulously placed across the entire length of the aorta, effectively sealing the rupture and restoring vital blood flow to the organs.
“This outstanding achievement by our cardiac sciences team is a testament to Yatharth Hospital's commitment to delivering world-class healthcare services that transcend geographical boundaries," stated Mr. Yatharth Tyagi, Director, Yatharth Group of Hospitals." However, with the advent of advanced endovascular techniques at Yatharth Hospital, we were able to successfully treat this patient through a minimally invasive approach, significantly enhancing their chances of survival."
